In the street, get off the ground, get to your feet.

The reality of the modern day streets demands we retain the maximum amount of mobility possible at all times. If we cannot respond to a rapidly changing situation the consequence is we start to receive. That now said, we must understand that the ground is NOT a place we want to be for to long. When we consider the variables that can come into play we start to see how the ring and the street are different entities.

For example:

- In the ring, it’s one-on-one, no “buddies” jump in or start stomping on your head when your tied up with their friend on the ground. Multiple attackers change everything, this is where KFM thrives!

- The street is hard, uneven, and full of hazards. There are no broken glass bottles, decaying matter or animal droppings to roll around in when your on a mat. Here in Texas, the concrete gets REALLY HOT in the summer, this is not a place you want to be.

- Their are no weight classes in the real world. It doesn’t matter to your attacker that they are 100lbs larger than you. You must ask yourself does my art help me deal with this?

- No one pulls a knife on you in the ring. End up on the ground and loose track of the attackers hands and expect them to access a weapon….gun, blade, screwdriver, etc. If your tied up on the ground your likely to never see this coming and only know when its already to late.

I’m not trying to discredit any arts here simply point out that the answers in the ring are not necessarily the answers you need on the street. It’s a different world and must be treated as such.
